DESTINY HEALING FAIR

BY MICHELLE SMITH

My journey began about five years ago when I was invited to be part of a team that had a Christian stand within a psychic fair. It was a real eye-opener! Since then, we have had many stands at these events bringing the Truth to those seeking spiritual guidance, and emotional and physical healing.

We offer prayers for healing, ‘destiny readings' (prophecy), dream interpretations and free books and gifts.  We have been privileged to see countless men and women touched by God as we minister to them, often in tears or amazement that He really does care about them personally and knows all about them.

Some may ask ‘Should we really be in such places?' Whilst it may not be everyone's gift to do this, we believe it is part of what we are called to do in shining God's light in the dark places. We have even been refused back to a twice-yearly event because the ‘energy' (Holy Spirit) around our stand was too great and the mediums/spiritual healers around us couldn't tap into their spirit guides!

For about two years I have felt God nudging me to host a Christian Healing Fair, providing a place for God's people to use their creative gifts in reaching others. The gentle nudge turned into a burning desire and on 5th February 2011 we held our first healing fair with 23 stands. There was everything from herbal products, prophetic art, massage, manicures, Psalm cards, art therapy table (expressing yourself through clay, paints, etc), dream interpretation, prophecy, healing prayer, photography and much more. Entrance and most therapies were free; some items like jewellery and cards were sold.

We had an intercession room which was our ‘engine room' and we relayed prayer requests etc throughout the event.

We advertised it as ‘Destiny Healing Fair' using language understood by those who attend psychic fairs on our posters e.g. prophecy = destiny readings.  People were queuing to get readings, dream interpretations, and several were in tears as God touched them through prayers and prophecy, paintings given to them, and Bible verses they picked themselves (Psalm cards). One medium went to two different stands and out of approx 150 cards on each, she picked exactly the same Bible verse which said ‘Repent and believe...!' Needless to say she was shocked.

Several people said that they felt a peace at our event that they hadn't experienced elsewhere; even some who came from Spiritualist churches and other New Age backgrounds have asked when we'll be doing another fair. Two people came to know Jesus as their Saviour.

There is a spiritual hunger growing in our nation and the psychics and New Agers are putting their wares boldly in the market places; a quick look on the shelves of your local bookshop will tell you that. Everything from Angelology, star signs, and witchcraft of many kinds is readily available.  You only need to look around and you will also find many psychic events taking place in your own areas, mediums hiring village halls and  hotel function rooms to tell peoples fortunes at a price.  I believe God is saying we need to ‘wake up, rise up and reap the harvest of hungry souls through the creative gifts He has given us.' Come on Church, together we can do it!
