Feedback on Jersey elections - Oct 2011

The Island of Jersey is a self-governing ‘Crown Dependency', and on October 19th  we had a general election to our parliament: ‘The States of Jersey'. It is a non-party-political assembly, so each candidate must be assessed upon their personal policies and merits. Public confidence in our politicians and their performance over the past three years was at a low ebb. These elections offered an opportunity for reform and a new cooperative spirit. Thus, prayer for God to intervene and overrule was obviously needed.

God stimulated an unprecedented  volume of earnest prayer around this time - more than we've known before. We are so grateful to the members of the Prayer Forum and friends who came over to join with us for three days over the actual election time. Jonathan Oloyede also flew over to make a brief but very significant contribution. The outcome was very encouraging, and the new assembly have now voted in a new Chief Minister, Ian Gorst. He is 42, an accountant and a born-again Christian!

We do thank God for His answers, and for all who stood with us in prayer. There are other Christians and people of integrity now elected as Ministers of various government departments, and reform of the House is high on the agenda.

As a result of this surge of prayer, it has become impressed on us to continue to hold regular well-informed prayer gatherings to undergird the on-going work of those who serve us in our government.

Thank you all who stood with us in prayer - and continue to stand as we pray for the transformation of this vibrant island community.

We have received many prophetic words from the Lord over the years on His purposes for this Island, as a refuge and source of His life and Spirit, and we are now keen to continue co-operating with Him until they manifest.
