Poverty and Homelessness Action Week
Poverty and Homelessness Action Week 2012 is fast approaching and there are already some exciting events planned. If you haven't planned your event yet, then don't worry, there's still time to order materials from one of the partners or download them for free from our website.
Reminder:
if you're planning an event, do please let us know! Register the details of
your event at our website now.
There are already many special church services, sleep outs and coffee mornings arranged as well as much more. In Liverpool's Quaker Meeting House there will be a debate entitled Cuts: From Rhetoric to Reality, at which Niall Cooper (National Co-ordinator, Church Action on Poverty), Alison Gelder (Director, Housing Justice), Louise Ellman MP and Luciana Berger MP will look at the impact of the current austerity measures being enacted by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition particularly with regards to the North West.
Meanwhile in Manchester the Boaz Trust, a Christian organisation serving destitute asylum seekers, are asking those churches that support them to focus their own prayers and reflections on the barriers that particularly hurt those seeking asylum; you can read more about it here.
And further north in Cairns there will be a church lunch with funds raised going to Action Week partner Scottish Churches Housing Action.
You can find out about these events and everything else that's happening by going to the Action Week events map.
The prayer for Poverty & Homelessness Action Week is:
Father, we thank you that Jesus came to break down barriers.
He did not see the migrant or the settled, the housed or the homeless, the
employed or the unemployed;
He saw and loved the person.
Forgive us when we put up barriers between ourselves and others; help us
show love to all without constraint.
Help us, your church, to build communities without barriers, where all are
valued because all are made in your image.
In Jesus' name, Amen
Plan your event!
Just a reminder - if you're planning a service or any other event in Action Week, we want to know about it!
